There are some important resolutions to be considered this year. I want to address questions I've been asked concerning Resolution 2. This resolution came from a General Board Committee on Technology and was approved by the General Board, and Resolutions Committee, to be presented at General Conference. I did not serve on this committee, but want to share with you the expressed motive & intent of the resolution.
The goal is NOT to alter or weaken our traditional stance against the evils of television. Rather, it is to strengthen our position against taking pleasure in viewing evil in any form. As with many other words changing over time, 'television' means something different today than it did originally, and perhaps than it will tomorrow.
I'm not advocating a position for or against the resolution.
I AM advocating that we 'set no wicked thing before our eyes' (Psalm 101:3).
You have to decide whether this resolution advances that goal or not.
I simply ask you not to misjudge the motive of the General Board in allowing this resolution to come before the body of ministers for consideration.
ADDENDUM: Now with the passing of Resolution 2, some observations…
Here's the Resolution that was made 3,000 years ago: "I WILL SET NO WICKED THING BEFORE MINE EYES." (Psalms 101:3)
In conclusion, the attitude expressed in the statement made by numerous speakers on Resolution 2: "Which ever way this goes, I will remain in the UPCI," is Key to remaining the UNITED Pentecostal Church International.
Once, when driving a familiar route, I noticed a guardrail had been removed. It caused me to steer & stay farther from the edge.
