Halloween

Halloween

South Bay Pentecostal Church does not promote Halloween.

In these last days, the world will do everything to attract families to things that lead them away from Jesus Christ.

Our goal, and mission of the church, is to seek and save that which is lost. It's the Great Commission of our Lord Jesus Christ.

According to Acts 2:40, there is an 'untoward generation' we must save ourselves from.

For that reason we will endeavor to provide a healthy and wholesome alternative to the things Halloween promotes.

What Satan means for evil, God turns to good. (Gen 50:20)

Our Fall Harvest Fest has been a safe and family friendly event in the city of Chula Vista, for all of San Diego's South Bay community, for many years!

We know that some have very strong feelings against Halloween itself, and that it may be a personal conviction between them and God. We respect that. With this in mind, we work hard every year to provide an event for people who have varying ideas about Halloween.

We seek to provide a safe & healthy environment, being salt & light in the world, on a night that otherwise many may be apprehensive of.

Rather than hide our light under a bushel, or hide out in our darkened homes on a night the neighborhood comes knocking at our doors, we will invite and direct family, friends and neighbors to join our alternative to Halloween, the annual SBUPC Fall Fest, modeling a happy & festive way to celebrate.

Proverbs 22:6 says to "Train up a child in the way he should go, so when he is old he will not depart from it."

We want our children to grow up with the culture that on Oct 31 we celebrate Fall & Harvest season at Church. This will lessen, if not eliminate, the worldly pressure on our impressionable children to join in conforming to worldly Halloween activities.

With Fall Fest, our children aren't made to feel like the proverbial 'odd man out' when friends ask what they did on Oct 31, rather they have something even more exciting to share.

Israel, as well as the world around them, had many grand celebrations, holy days and holidays, throughout the year.

Paul writes to believers in Romans 14:5 "One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind."

Colossians 2:16 says, "Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days."

In other words, there is room for different personal convictions, and they should not cause contention or be divisive to the body.

The basic fundamental doctrine of the United Pentecostal Church International is "the Bible standard of full salvation, which is repentance, baptism in water by immersion in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and the baptism of the Holy Ghost with the initial sign of speaking with other tongues as the Spirit gives utterance.  We shall endeavor to keep the unity of the Spirit until we all come into the unity of the faith, at the same time admonishing all the brethren that they shall not contend for their different views to the disunity of the body."

At our Fall Fest, we will accommodate those who want to dress up as various characters, without resorting to the ghoulish costuming of the world designed to instill fear and portray evil.

1 Thessalonians 5:22 admonishes us to "Abstain from all appearance of evil."

As God has not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind, we would request you not use this occasion to cause our children to fear.

It is also advisable not to use this as an occasion to lower your godly standards; rather that you manifest holiness through modest clothing, maintaining proper gender distinction, and avoiding worldly makeup & jewelry.

It is our goal to reach everyone, and every family. If your personal convictions, or preferences, keep you from joining us in reaching out to our community on this special occasion, we respect that; and hope in return you will respect our effort to provide a safe and wholesome alternative to Halloween.

In any case, we look forward to seeing you at our next church gathering.

Sincerely,

-Art Hodges lll
